Benzema signs a contract with a clause of 1 billion euros with Real

According to information from L’Équipe, Karim Benzema has agreed to sign a contract extension with Real Madrid. All formalities and official announcements will be completed in the next 24 hours.

The French striker’s current contract with Real Madrid is valid until June 2022. To avoid being watched by other teams, Los Blancos quickly extended a year with Benzema. Notably in this contract, Los Blancos installed a contract release clause of up to 1 billion euros.

This is a huge number and of course no team can meet it. Real Madrid wanted the French player to retire at the Bernabeu, so he installed this utopian clause.

In fact both Real Madrid and Benzema reached an oral agreement for a new contract in May. However, his move to an official contract was delayed due to his surprise return to the French national team for the Euros.

Despite being 33 years old, Benzema still plays an important role in coach Carlo Ancelotti’s plans at Real. He is also the top scorer of the White Vultures in recent years. Since Ronaldo’s departure, his role has become even more important.

In the Real shirt, Benzema contributed 281 goals after 12 years of working. He promises to surpass the scoring record of the legendary Alfredo Di Stefano (307 goals), even Raul Gonzalez (323 goals).

Previously, Real Madrid had successfully renewed with two other pillars, goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, right-back Dani Carvajal with contracts of 2 years and 4 years respectively.

Benzema is still Real Madrid’s main striker

Real Madrid is going through a rather dismal transfer window. They do not bring back blockbusters, but prioritize contract renewals with pillars. In addition, Los Blancos also promoted young players to the first team.

Many reports suggest that Real Madrid is targeting Kylian Mbappe from PSG. However, the French team showed a tough attitude and refused to let go. They are ready to lose this player at the end of the 2021/2022 season, when Mbappe’s contract expires.
